Hi everyone,
I hope you are doing well and finding time to enjoy these busy days of holiday season. For us makers, these days are also full of making or finishing all the handmade gifts we love to give to family and friends. Today I have just the perfect inspiration and resource for you – Gifting Handmade Makers Showcase. organized and presented by designer extraordinaire, Sharon Holland.
I am so thrilled and honored to be a part of this Showcase together with some super creative and wonderful makers. To follow this great event on Instagram (if you are not already), start from this list and make sure you follow Sharon and all the makers, as well as hashtag #giftinghandmadeshowcase . You can also find Week 1 summary and all the links, as well as an amazing giveaway by Sharon, on her website, HERE.
Today is my turn on the showcase and for this I picked to show you how to make really fun and versatile 3D fabric flowers and table runner that you can make with them. I am using beautiful combination of Sharon’s Fanciful blender collection together with few favorite prints from her Tribute collection, Listen to Your Heart , with just a bit of yellow Pure Solid mixed in. These fabrics play together so well and colors just sing to my heart.
Aren’t these fabrics just gorgeous?
The flowers and table runner I made were also a holiday project I wrote about and made tutorial about many years ago and you will find that full tutorial HERE.
Isn’t this fun?
You start from some simple piecing – 10″ wide strip for the runner middle, some strips for two side borders and squares and rectangles for the basket part…
Very simple piecing to make the runner part…
…and then you cut come circles – large and small if you want different size flowers, and some green for leaves too, and cut them in half.
Then after some machine chain-piecing to make the cute little “cones” , some fun and relaxing hand piecing to make the flowers can begin! (remember, full tutorial is at the link above!)
They really are such fun to make!
And once you have as many as you like, just “plant” them on your table runner or really, any other project you can think of – pillow, as gift tags, ornaments for your tree… anything!
I really had fun making this runner, but of course have more flowers than I needed (they are slightly addicting to make!), so will make few more things and share – stay tuned!
And here is another really good news for you – more beautiful projects are coming your way this coming week, from more wonderful makers, so be sure to follow it all on Instagram!
Hope you will have fun making some flowers, putting them on anything you can think of and enjoy some Gifting Handmade of your own.
I will be back with more simple, gifting handmade friendly projects for you very soon!
Love,
Marija
This is reallllly cute I adore this table runner.
Have you washed it? or is it best to hand wash? I suppose it is easily washable
I love table runners. I am going to make this one!!
Thank you so much! I stitch flowers to the runner by hand and they are totally secure to be washed. I hope you do make it and have fun! 🙂
Beautiful camera work Marija!
