Hi everyone,

Hope you winter is going well! Over here we have a decent amount of snow and some cold days, but that’s to be expected. Good sewing weather!

Well, if you are not down with a head cold, that is. I was, hence my tutorial and pattern are a bit delayed, but making progress!!

I am playing with newest gorgeous fabric collection by my super-talented friend Katarina Roccella, called Grid.

Hmm… did I mention – gorgeous? Yeah, I am sure you got that. Seriously, I am just so in love with some prints, I just keep taking pictures!!

So, my first thought in what to make was – something to use as many of these lovelies as possible and something that will have big pieces of each fabric. I just want to show it off !! And enjoy looking at it afterwards! 😁

After some doodling and coloring in my EQ8 two general designs came as some think I liked:

– a simple woven pattern

– and some circles…

So why do you think??

Any you like or any just “meh…” or any Nooooo ? Tell me and be honest- I can take it! 😁

Well I do like them both really, for the simplicity and letting the fabric shine. Lovely folks at Art Gallery Fabrics really liked the woven one on dark background, so this is the one I am doing first to show off and enjoy this lovely collection.

For me personally, these is one more reason I love making and sharing this one – strip-piecing is one of my favorite techniques and I want to sure with all of you my methods and tips for easy and successful strip-piecing!

I use it for many different patterns – from traditional 4-patches and 9-patches, to multiple border designs to special effects like Bargello style quilts. But for strip-piecing to work well and be successful, I hold on to these criteria:

1. Accurately and straight cut strips

2. Accurate and (more importantly!) consistent 1/4″ seam allowance

3. Pressing well those long strip-sets

4. Cross-cutting the strip-sets accurately

I will be showing you how I do all four if these important steps! Hey, I might even be brave to try a video or two… eeek!!

While I am finishing a PDF pattern instructions and going through all my tutorial photos to get ready for tomorrow, here are few preview photos!

Final fabric choices and all strips cut…

Secret weapon for good 1/4″ seam while strip-piecing…

Lots and lots of strips are chain-pieced…

Good pressing is good thing!!

Then you cross-cut, start the layout, play with color placement… all the way till you are happy!! 😍

This last photo is my final layout – what do you think??

Oh and there is only one small problem remaining – NAME!

What would you call this one?

I am a bit stumped right now so suggestions are greatly appreciated!! Please and thank you!! ❤️

OK my friends, I chatted enough, time to go and finish some pattern/instructions writing so you all can have a tutorial and FREE pattern tomorrow!!

I have just one more thing to say – I really like this quilt top!! (if I may say so myself..) 😁

Love,

Marija

I, too, have fallen completely in love with Katarina Roccella’s Grid fabric and have been searching for the right pattern for days… until I saw yours! I really, really hope you manage to find the time to draw up a pattern as I love it so much 😍

I’m no good at names, but perhaps Cross Frame?

I think you developed a pattern that shows the fabric well. I am bothered by the mesh lines of the background. To me the lines are distracting..
I do love your patterns and am finally getting to the lovely one you developed for Esoterra.

I kind of agree with Pam on this one. It’s beautiful on the computerized pattern, but I’m not fond of how the grid lines don’t line up in the border. Since it’s woven, how about “Grid Lock”?

I’d love to know more about your secret weapon for perfect 1/4″ seams. I don’t quite understand the photo.
