Hello everyone and happy Wednesday!

Winter is finally here in western NY and first winter’s snow is falling… I just love it!

As promissed yesterday, I am here EVERY day this month and today I want to share with you one of my recent quilt finishes – RAMBLER quilt!

Rambler is one of the newest patterns released by super-talented Sharon Holland of Sharon Holland Designs and it is so so good! It combines easy and very clever piecing of one simple block with fast assembly and great versatility in possible fabric choices – a quilter’s dream!

I was very honored to be one of Sharon’s pattern testers and had so much fun making this quilt. From the very beginning I decided my version will be from my stash (ouch for no fabric shopping!) and it had to be a masculine one (intended for my son). I am not gonna lie – I did struggle a bit with these restrictions, but at the end I really love how it turned out.

When it came to quilting it – yet another set of new challenges. This one had to be cuddly, so I picked plushy minky fabric for the back and combined it with very light batting – one of my favorites, Hobbs Tuscany Silk Blend. The other challenge was – how to quilt it! Since it was going to be a guy quilt, I didn’t want any frilly doodles or flowers (which is my usual thing, right?) and somehow came up with a crazy idea to try a clamshell design, on my sit-down mid-arm Pfaff Grand Quilter, all free hand… Crazy, I know!!

Again – keeping it honest here – it was NOT an easy one to do!

Keeping a smooth movement and small, but very frequent backtrackings made it for not a very relaxing experience (which usually FMQ is for me!), but the fact that I could go in “rows” across the quilt made it doable.

Have you done it free motion? Any good tips?

However, it was a good challenge and great learning experience – some of my favorite things! 🙂

And at the end – I do like how it turned out! YAY!

What do you think? 🙂

As pattern calls for, Rambler is a generous twin or Full size (72″x86″) but you could easily add more blocks to the width or more rows to the length to make it bigger, and pattern comes with a BONUS – table runner design/pattern! Not to mention that as always with Sharon’s patterns, it is written clearly and well, with great instruction and diagrams. If you need even more inspiration and color ideas, make sure to read Sharon’s blog post about this pattern and follow the hashtag #ramblerquilt – there are so many amazing quilts made already! I am definitely planning a few more…

OK, now back to the 31 Day Blog Writing Challenge and Day 2 prompt – my sewing space. I know I have done this before, but here are few latest photos…

I really love my sewing table. It comes from Tracey’s Tables and it is super sturdy, with just the things I need and no bells and whistles that I don’t, therefore also not costing multiple thousands of dollars either. The back leaf (one TV is now on) comes down if needed, side leaf comes up when needed, it has casters that lock, storage… and it comes fully assembled!! I have this table for at least a dozen years (or more? can’t remember!) and it is like new.

Here is the newest and by far my FAVORITE addition to my sewing room – my granddaughters’ very own sewing space!! I can’t tell you how much i love, love, love when they come over and we get to play together!! Many doll pillows and blankets have been made already and we have many more plans… 🙂

What is your favorite part of your sewing space?

Let’s chat again tomorrow,

Love,

Marija

Thank you Lisa!! I think I used to gravitate more towards the warm colors in general, but I can see a slight change in my ways now… I just love this one!!
