Hi everyone,
Hope you had a day filled with love yesterday and really – any other day! I definitely did and I am so deeply grateful for all the love that surrounds me. My family is truly my heartbeat.
These days grandkids are the center of our world for sure and when one needs a special dress – it is a call this grandma love the most. ❤️
Juliana was very busy practicing in her preschool, for the Love Concert and instructions for dress code came as ” red or pink in your Sunday best..” I was tossing between few patterns but at the end Blithe, by Violette Field Threads was the choice
This is such a beautiful dress that maybe looks complicated, but it really isn’t at all! The tulle option is the one to go with when you need fancy!! My choice was between the two velvets, and the darker, classic one won
I just love the details like – tulip sleeves! They might take a dozen pins and some patience…
…but the end result is soooo worth it!!
Another thing that I just love with these new, small independent pattern companies (like VFT and few other ladies I mentioned before) are – instructions! Excellent, detailed, full of photos, step-by-step instructions!!! They are amazing! Besides obvious reasons, here is another: I learned how to sew from my stepmother, when I was a child, and all that time used patterns that have very, very little instruction. That was OK when you had someone teaching you what to do. But with these new patterns – I am still learning!! So many cool techniques, tips and tricks!!
They make this jumbled-looking “thing”
…become a fully lined, all seams incased, beautiful bodice of the dress!! It’s a famous “burrito” method- super cool!!
The skirt was abundance of heart-flocked tulle that was not the most fun to gather, but again – so worth it!
My trusty Aurifil 50wt did not break or disappoint in all that gathering and stitching through multiple layers (and that color!! ❤️❤️❤️)
Of course supervisors were as vigilant too…
Lucky me!! Right??
At the end, “your Sunday best” for my pre-school cutie and her little sister too.
PST… little sis dress had to be slightly modified (shorter top skirt) because this velvet I chose was a piece I had from before, so not quite enough, but made it work!!
I love the high-low skirt detail too…
And as a last touch and few stitches of my love – a little label on the inside…
As happy as all this made me feel, nothing – really NOTHING compares with seeing my sweet little girls smile in their dresses!!
Not to mention sitting through the Love concert full of cute preschoolers singing!!
And getting all the hugs and kisses after…
Blessed beyond measure and deeply grateful. Two most abundant feelings in my life.
I wish you all the same, truly.
Stay tuned for the cool quilt pattern and tutorial coming very soon,
Love,
Marija
