Hello everyone,

Hope your Tuesday is going well! Got colder here and some flakes are flying…

Todays blog post is inspired by another challenge I jumped in, on Instagram. Sharon McConnell of Color Girl Quilts is hosting a fun photo prompt party called My Creative 2018. You can read all about it HERE and jump if you like!

Yesterday’s photo prompt was Where I Sew and it is one thing currently on my mind a lot…. I am trying to reorganize my space and kinda be smart about it – make it a place where I will be both, happy and efficient. I know we all use what we can and have, but I am very fortunate to have a room of my own and have no excuse to keep it messy and chaotic, specially because that does make me un-inspired and non-efficient.

So here is how my room was before

Sewing table right at the door and cutting table/ironing surface right next to it. Not a bad setup at all, but across from that was a frame for a mid-arm machine (didn’t take a photo.. ) that I really wasn’t using much at all, taking a lot of space, hence not a lot of space for anything else. So, decided to move the frame out (into the attic room, I can still use it there) and re-arrange the room. This is a photo from the door:

Machine went to the other side and cutting table turned around

This way I can actually open my sewing table if I need to (it is Tracey’s Table) and there is more open space now.

It is important to have that extra space since my sweet granddaughters are big enough now to come and play with Bai in the sewing room (yayyyy!!) Notice the big teddy bear, red bucket with scraps and a chair in the second photo – all their stuff. 🙂

And full disclosure- these photos were taken this morning, totally “as is”, mess and piles included…

Pile on the cutting table waiting to be holiday dresses…

Pile in the chair for, you guessed it, more holiday dresses (more about that later!) I sew on my trusty and a bit old Pfaff (it is Quilt Expression 2044), it is still working great..

Shelf you saw on the first photo is mostly my garment making fabrics and Christmas fabric on the top. On the other side are two more shelves like that, where quilting fabric lives…

In front of them are two sliding frames that hold my design walls (it is a very simple thing to make, my hubby did it, let me know if you need more information, I will be happy to share!) At this time those two walls are slightly ruined, because this happens often:

Yeah… good thing miss Tesla kitty is so cute. And she actually goes on the very top shelf to snooze while I sew – how can I be mad? Truth is, the white felt does have a shelf life and this one will need replacement soon, so it’s ok…

Besides the messy parts, here is the pretties part of my sewing room – my Mother’s Day gift from few years ago!

It is kind of a recognition/organization station. My kids framed my first two patterns published in the magazines, added calendar and To-Do list that I can use with dry erase markers – it was such a lovely surprise and I love it so much!!

As I said, this space is so much a work in progress. Here is my wish list and list of trouble areas:

1. Need better way to organize on-going projects. (any suggestions?? Please and thank you!! )

2. Want an inspiration/ideas board

3. Need a calendar-type dry erase board to have plans and deadlines right in front of my eyes!

4. Need to de-stash and have more room for current things (almost 25 years of fabric collection adds up, you know… )

I am sure there is more, but let’s not bore you all with it now.

Just one more thing to show you that I am excited about – I now have a little office space too!

Once youngest son moved out, the lovely office space he and his girlfriend made is now mine to enjoy! Also doubles as Miss Natalie’s little bedroom, when granddaughters come for sleepover, but that is what I love about it.

I hope to use it for my blogging and designing space and just in general as a quiet place to write…

It needs wall decor/organization and few other things but I am excited to use it.

Thank you for taking a tour with me and please share your space and ideas, I would love to hear them!

Now off to cut some holiday dresses, will tell you all about that tomorrow,

Love,

Marija
