Good morning friends,

Now here is an interesting food for thought, right?

What skills do I wish for?

Some specific quilt making skills might come to mind instantly, but as I thought about it I realized that at this point in my life and creative quilting journey, what I wish for the most is TIME. Now of course one can’t just make extra time that doesn’t exist, but what I can do is organize my time better and focus more. So those are the skills I wish for the most.

So I got myself two things – a good planner and the Kanban Board.

I have done planners before, and I really do love Stephanie Palmer’s Quilter’s Planner the best. With lost of customization options and little mini, pocket size planner, it’s the best! 🙂 Above is my 2021 one and I can’t wait to use it!

However, my trouble is that sometimes I simply don’t have time to use the planner to the fullest, to write it all down, to look at it as I should… I really admire people who do! I love seeing those full planner pages, even decorated with stickers and washi tape, different color markers… I just can’t seem to get there? Any advice there, my friends? 🙂

Hence – I am going to try additional, more visual and instant way of keeping myself on the track – a Kanban Board.

Above is just a start of mine (it is not hung on the wall yet!). Kanban Board is a simple way of visualizing your tasks and work flow and where in the process they are, in order to help you be better organized. There is so much more about these, even courses and YouTube videos created, so one can dive into it as deep as you like. Basically the simplest one would be to have a board with three columns: To do, In progress and Done, and then on the Post-it notes would be your specific projects, but broken into steps or tasks. You would then move the Post-its from one column to the other as you work.

I am still working on the specific on how I will categorize my “to do” and “In progress” columns to best suite my process and needs, but I am excited to try this!

Anyone else using Kanban Board? Any ideas or suggestions?

When it comes to the actual quilting process, there is one skill I wish to learn now – better straight line quilting and also ruler quilting. I will admit that straight line quilting is not my favorite to do, but I do love the look of it in specific cases and admire well done ones too. Just a skill I would love to conquer!

Above is one of my attempts in straight line quilting that I am somewhat happy with, but you can see there is much space for improvement, right? 🙂 Specially if you look on the back, LOL

As I said in the beginning – this is a really interesting topic! Curious to know what is a skill you wish for?

We will definitely chat more tomorrow, stay well and safe,

Love,

Marija
