Hello friends,

today I come here to show you yet another amazing, magical fabric collection created by my endlessly talented friend, Art Gallery Fabric Designer, Katarina Roccella.

PICTURESQUE is so full of beautiful detail, amazing colors, flowers and – Unicorns!!!

Selection from Picturesque fabric collection

As they always do – creative people at Art Gallery Fabrics created a beautiful Lookbook, full of many different projects to get you inspired! Click HERE to see it all!!

I am so honored and happy to be a part of the lineup of makers who had the honor of contributing to the Lookbook and bellow is what I made (for now! 🙂 )

As soon as I saw all these beautiful colors, flowers and Unicorns, I knew I had to play with it!! Many designs were created in my trusty EQ8, but this is the one that was chosen – I call it DREAMLAND.

Dreamland is actually a variation on the pattern I designed many years ago and even published in Quiltmaker magazine about 3 years ago, except that one was a queen size quilt with slightly different setting and traditional borders.

What do you think?

Does it look comlicated to you?

It really is NOT complicated to piece – all just Half-Square Triangles (HSTs) with a small variation, and Quarter-Square Triangles (QSTs), with just a few Flying Geese blocks at the edges of the quilt! That is IT!

HSTs ready for the small, corner flip-square to be added – that is the variation you will need!

Both HSTs and QSTs are 4″ finished, so these blocks go together quick!

If there is one slightly involved part of this pattern, it is being organized to make all the QST blocks in specific color combinations, to make the final pattern. But there is a system for that too! Below are all my QSTs, in color combinations needed.

QSTs (still not trimmed!) in all different color combinations that will make the final pattern.

Once you make both of these units and total of just 12 Flying Geese bocks, you are ready to assemble them in blocks and make the quilt!

And here is the best part – you will find full, free pattern here, by tomorrow!! Full confession – as I read through the pattern/instructions in preparation for this blog post, I realized it was not as clear as I hoped it would be… 🙁 (full confession #2 – life has been a bit hectic lately…ugh.) So in order to give you the best instruction I can, I will revise it tonight and post a link HERE by tomorrow!!

So…. TA-DAH!!

DREAMLAND – 63″ X 63″

Behind the scenes truth? – we had rain for days when I was finishing this, I literally had only 20 min interval to run out in front of my house and take few of these!! But I am looking forward to a full, fun photoshoot once I finish quilting it.

Speaking of quilting it – any ideas? What would you do for quilting on this one? What color thread?

But I could not stop there, when it comes to this collection. As soon as I saw which design was chosen for Rayon (Unicorns!! <3 <3 <3 ) I knew that my sweet little granddaughters will need some twirly dresses made out of these divine fabrics!!

Evangeline pattern, by Violette Fields Thread was a perfect pattern – just look at those sleeves and tiers of ruffles!!!

Rayon is a dream to work with and even dreamier to wear.

And most important part – girls LOVED their dresses – YAY!!!

So my friends – what do you think about Picturesque collection? What does it inspire you to do? Make sure you browse through Lookbook for many many more inspirations and ideas!

Off to do some pattern revision and maybe even quilt a little tonight…

Stay safe and well,

Love, Marija

Hello. I’m wondering if you ever got around to posting the tutorial/pattern for the Dreamland quilt? I absolutely love it and would really like to make one of my very own. 😀

Thank you for sharing the process.
Any fabric by katerina Roccella is just beautiful. She is an incredibly gifted artist
Your skill at putting her fabric in it’s perfectly elegant light with the dresses and the quilt, is also exceptional
